Letter to School Administrators From the NH Department of Environmental Services Regarding a Survey on Fuel-Burning Devices
This letter was presented at the NHC3UA meeting on Oct. 20th.
Dear School Administrator,
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, Air Resources Division (DES) began an outreach initiative in 2001 to evaluate New Hampshire schools for compliance with the New Hampshire Administrative Rules Env-A 100 et seq., Rules Governing the Control of Air Pollution. We are now beginning the second part of this initiative and are expanding our survey to include private schools and colleges.
Our focus is to help New Hampshire schools and colleges understand the requirements of the air pollution control rules and to identify the steps that schools must take to comply with the rules, if applicable. The primary devices of interest are fuel-burning boilers and emergency generators. The main goal of this outreach initiative is to protect students, staff, and surrounding communities from outdoor air pollution released by fuel-burning devices.
DES requests that you take a few minutes to complete the attached survey regarding the fuel burning devices at your facility. Please provide information for all fuel burning devices associated with each school and include all buildings on the campus. If your college has multiple campuses throughout the state, please complete a separate survey for each campus. It is essential that all of the information requested on the survey is filled out completely (boiler size, generator size, and fuel type). You do not need to provide information on smaller devices such as, rooftop units, hot water heaters, and household sized furnaces.
Please complete the attached survey and return it to my attention by July 1, 2006. You can return the survey to me via e-mail at cpeshka@des.state.nh.us, fax at 603-271-7053, or mail at the address below. Once we get your information, we will compile it in order to determine if your school is in compliance with the requirements of the air pollution control rules.
DES looks forward to working with you in this effort to provide a healthy environment for students and all members of the community. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 603-271-0537.
Sincerely,
Christie Peshka
