“Pharmaceuticals – How should we dispose of them?”
Lynn Rubinstein, Director of the Northeast Recycling Council will talk about her research on different collection options for unwanted pharmaceuticals. She will explain all of the laws and rules governing the collection of unwanted controlled pharmaceuticals and which method might work best for your town, region, or local planning commission. a. Negotiating You Next Solid Waste Contract, Joanne McLaughlin, Manchester Recycling Coordinator and Patrick Corcoran, Corcoran Environmental Services. This public/private agreement could change the recycling market in Hillsborough and Merrimack Counties. Come hear how the city of Manchester is working with Corcoran Environmental and how Corcoran Environmental’s long range plans could help your town. b. Are You Ready Because the E-Waste Ban Takes Affect On July 1, 2007, Don Maurer, Environmental Services. What are you going to do with all those CRTs and TV screens? Starting in July 2007, these electronic devices will no longer be accepted at any New Hampshire landfill or incinerator. Come hear how the vendors can help your town. c. Automotive Salvage Yards “Green Yards” Operating In Your Town, Pam Sprague, Environmental Services. What is a green yard and how does it affect your town. a. Source Separation Is Lighter On Your Pocket Book, Jonathon Hixon, ERRCO and Charlie Nelson, LL&S. What is involved with source separation and how are the two largest wood processing facilities in the state handling it? A little bit of planning along with education and outreach can save your solid waste facility money in reduced disposal costs. c. What in the World is SWANA, Jeff Murray, NNE SWANA President. What is the Solid Waste Association of North America and what can they do for you? a. Out of Sight – Out of Mind, The Future of NH Solid Waste, One Manager’s Observations, David Poulson, Facility Manager for the Windham Transfer Facility. Mr. Poulson will combine his many years as a manager of a county operated landfill in Ohio with his five years experience as the manager of the Windham Transfer Facility. Windham is dealing with a significant population explosion and Mr. Poulson sees this as only the beginning. Come hear his views on the solid waste industry in New Hampshire. b. Running Out Of Space In Your Town, Kerry Converse, City of Nashua. In this fast paced world where everyone is expected to multitask why shouldn’t our space keep pace with the times? Idea’s on how to reuse your old landfill for valuable town property. The City of Nashua has been using several old landfills for town recreation. c. What Does It Take To Operate A MRF, Tony Barbagallo, Facility Manager will explain how the Chittenden Solid Waste District got started and how business is going now. What are the costs involved and how much material do they have to process to break even? What are the District’s future plans and what happens to all their recyclables?
